PORK FILLED PLAYERS: K-SPAM

Stop the presses! Flood the airwaves! Spam the Net!

Pork Filled Players (PFP) body slams the media in their new sketch comedy show, K-SPAM: Yellow Journalism and Other Jaundiced Media, starting September 16, at the Northwest Actors’ Studio Cabaret Space (1100 East Pike St., Seattle, WA).

The Northwest’s longest running Asian American sketch comedy group tackles the debut of Seattle’s first South Asian superhero, singing Zen Buddhist monks, the trials and travails of Asian American news anchors and the Bush Administration’s final solution for NPR funding.

K-SPAM plays at 8 pm, Fridays and Saturdays from September 16 to October 8. Tickets are $12 general, $9 students/groups. For more information go to http://www.porkfilled.com or email pr@porkfilled.com. Tickets are available online at http://www.ticketwindowonline.com or call 206/325-6500.

PFP welcomes its first South Asian member, Agastya Kohli, as well as fellow rookies Virginia Gabby, Brian Beckley and Jaime Saginor, who join PFP stalwarts Edward T. Tonai and Maggie Lee (in a new role as actor!) under the leadership of returning director Linda Lombardi and producer Roger Tang for PFP’s 17th show.

The Pork Filled Players have been veterans of the Seattle sketch comedy scene since 1997. As the Northwest’s premiere Asian American sketch comedy group, the Players have toured from Eugene, Oregon, to Vancouver, B.C., racking up appearances at the first two Seattle Sketchfests, Bumbershoot 2004 and SketchOff@%#!?, the first international Asian sketch comedy competition. Over the years, the players have employed an ever changing cast of characters in their never-ending battle for truth, pursuit of justice, and finding out whatever the hell they mean by the American way of life in the 21st Century. Auditions - SANGHARSH KI OR - Staged Reading

Friday, August 5th, 2005
Please distribute widely - Call For Auditions.
Who: Pratidhwani Drama Wing
What: SANGHARSH KI OR (Hindi), Staged Reading
Auditions Date/Time: Sunday, August 14th, 1pm to 5pm. (By appointment only).
Audition Venue: Meeting Room #2:
                       Bellevue Regional Library
                      1111 110th Avenue NE, Bellevue 98004
Audition Appointments: Please call Agastya Kohli at 206.465.4590  or email agastyak@gmail.com (agastyak AT gmail DOT com) for an audition slot. Monologs are welcome, but not required. Headshots/resumes are welcome, but not required. Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script.
Requirements: Both men and women, all ages are required. The script has a very large number of characters and many actors will read multiple parts. MUST BE ABLE TO READ, SPEAK AND UNDERSTAND HINDI (IN DEVANAAGARI).
Performance Date: A single performance will be held Oct 9 (Sunday). Time TBD. Location: Ethnic Cultural Theatre, Seattle.
Additional Information: If you haven’t seen a staged reading before, here is how it works. There will be no set. Instead, we’ll have the right number of chairs on the stage for all the actors. There may be a hint of costume, but certainly not complete costume. There may be a hint of props, but that is also not the focus of the presentation. The focus of the presentation is the script.
Actors will read (memorization not required) the lines from the script with full ‘acting impact’. Even though we don’t have all the visual aids on the stage, we want to give the audience as good an idea of the play/story as we possibly can. Therefore, acting ability IS required. Actors will be required to connect with others in the scene to create a believable show.
About the script: SANGHARSH KI OR is a play based on Ram-katha adapted from Dr. Narendra Kohli’s novel "ABHYUDAYA" by Zafar Sanjari. The play received its world premier in Shri Ram Center in New Delhi, under the direction of Zafar Sanjari. As it is based on the story of Ram, it ties in very well with the holiday season that we will just be entering on Oct 9. If you are interested in reading the script ahead of the auditions, a word document may be downloaded from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pratidhwani_drama/files/ (look for SANGHAR.doc).
